Molcajete mortar and pestle - natural Mexican volcanic stone

A classic stoneware molcajete hand-carved from volcanic rock.

Mexican mortar & pestles are particularly effective as their rough volcanic surface is perfect for grinding. This molcajete will also look great on display in your kitchen.

Used to grind spices and chiles, or to make the traditional guacamole or salsa

As these molcajetes are hand made, sizes can vary wildly.  Brush shown in photos is not always available.  Call on 08 8333 1931 for exact measurements if required and if brush is currently in stock.

As a guide, they are often around this size - Diameter aproximately 17cm (inside), 21cm (outside) and 15-20cm high. Aproximate weight is 6kg.

Please note: as this is a natural product, each will vary and have its own characteristics. Irregular surfaces, holes or bumps are all considered normal.

As this is a very heavy item, be aware it could add considerable shipping cost.

Preparing your molcajete prior to first use:
With the pestle, grind raw rice inside the bowl until the rice turns grey.
Empty and repeat until the rice no longer turns grey and then rinse with water and scrub with a brush.
