Gourmet Edible Food Crayon - Chipotle (1 Food Crayon + 1 Sharpener)

Add to Wishlist

As you can imagine, they are as odd as they sound. These crayon-shaped edible sticks are like solid condiments, brightly colored and packed with flavor.

Each one is made with all-natural ingredients, including agar (a vegan sub for gelatin), which is used as a gelling agent to help bind the ingredients into the crayon shape. It also gives the crayons a satisfyingly soft texture, whilst apple cider vinegar adds a slightly acidic bite.

Using a special sharpener, which is integrated into the design of each vial encasing the crayon, these flavour-packed art tools are easily shaved into dishes. They can be used to add a touch of brightness without needing to grate and grind, or even prepare sauces, compotes, and vinaigrettes.

Pairings
Chili Con Carne: Add a few shavings or more of chipotle to your chili con carne for a smoky and spicy flavor. Start with a small amount and adjust to your taste preferences.

Bloody Mary: If you enjoy a spicy Bloody Mary cocktail, you can add a shaving of chipotle crayon to the mix. It will add depth and smokiness to the drink.

Burritos: Sprinkle a little chipotle food crayon into your burrito filling for an extra layer of flavor. It works well with meats, beans, and vegetables.

Meats: Use chipotle for meats such as chicken, pork, or beef after grilling or roasting. It will create a flavorful crust and add smokiness to the meat.

Chicken: If you're cooking chicken, whether it's grilled, baked, or sautéed, you can sprinkle chipotle crayon on the chicken before cooking for a spicy and smoky flavor.

Serving size: 5 to 10 shavings per plate. For smaller bite-size servings or drinks, 1 or 2 shavings should suffice.

Shelf life and storage: Food Crayons have a shelf life of 9 to 12 months. To maintain its freshness and quality, store it in its tube in the refrigerator after opening.

Ingredients: Water, apple cider vinegar, chipotle pepper, salt, Agar-agar, gluten free tamari, locust bean gum, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, spices.

Not good.

I'm biting my tongue a bit writing this review. I bought the Black Garlick, Chipotle and Ghost Pepper versions of these. I’m not really happy with any of them.

Firstly, let it be known that the sharpener does not integrate in any way with the holder. It does not fit inside or attach outside in any way. It’s a separate thing which has to travel separate.

The black garlic and ghost pepper sticks held up physically ok to testing but the chipotle stick fell apart with little force.

The primary sin of these products however is that the flavour of all three I tried is really weak. When the chipotle stick fell apart, I gave up and just ate a big chunk directly. Probably many multiple times the serving suggestion. Totally underwhelming flavour. I eventually did the same with the ghost pepper stick and ate a big chunk off the end. That was maybe a 4/10 heat wise.

If you apply flakes of this stuff to your food will be very disappointed with little to no impact heat or flavour wise. It’s just a gimmick.

Much better off just buying a small bottle of proper sauce.
