Rice is a major Louisiana crop and kitchen staple. This beloved dish evolved as home cooks discovered that adding spices and leftover meat would create rice that tastes a whole lot better – even if it looks a little “dirty.” Dirty rice is infused with flavors of onion and bell pepper. The dish is traditionally prepared with giblets, but Zatarain’s Dirty Rice Mix is delicious with ground beef, ground pork, ground turkey or any other meat of your choosing.
Ingredients: ENRICHED LONG GRAIN PARBOILED RICE (RICE, IRON, NIACIN, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, FOLIC ACID), ONION, SEA SALT, SALT, GARLIC, RED & GREEN BELL PEPPER, YEAST EXTRACT, SPICES (INCLUDING PAPRIKA & RED PEPPER), AND CARAMEL COLOR.
Easy cooking directions:
Lightly brown 1 pound of ground beef and drain.
In a 3 litre saucepan, combine 2½ cups water, 2T vegetable oil (optional), bring to a boil.
Add zatarain's dirty rice mix and meat and return mixture to a boil.
Reduce heat, stir, cover and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes.
